Cornelius Kolig’s (1942-2022) paradise is a unique work of art – also from an international perspective. Cornelius Kolig did not conceive this complex as a museum, his wish was to enable an “online visit” without having to travel. This website attempts to do justice to his ideas and provides a virtual tour, numerous videos, picture galleries and detailed texts – as a starting point for those interested in this fascinating and complex work, as a platform for future exhibitions, publications, art historical research and discussions.
Paradise is an area of around 5,000 m2 in Vorderberg in the Gailtal valley in Carinthia/AT, the artist’s birthplace, on which buildings and garden elements for the objects and installations gathered there have been created since 1979. The driving force behind the realization of Paradise was his conviction that a higher degree of complexity and intensity can be achieved through the interaction and symphonic harmony of many interrelated works than is possible through the portioning of artistic concepts into more saleable individual works, which is generally preferred by the art world.
